WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A house fire in Northwest D.C. left a cat dead and five people without a place to live on Monday afternoon, according to officials. Details are limited; however, in a post on X around noon, the DC Fire and EMS Department (DCFD) said crews responded to a working fire in the 5200 block of Connecticut Avenue NW. Once on the scene, firefighters said flames were coming from all three floors and the attic.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The United States Attorney’s Office for D.C. announced that a District Heights teen pleaded guilty to his involvement in a pawn shop burglary in 2023. CyJuan Hemsley,18, pleaded guilty on May 7 to conspiracy to commit theft from a firearms licensee and one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Hemsley is one of five people who have pleaded guilty to the conspiracy in connection with the robbery.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Detectives in Montgomery County are searching for a 27-year-old with autism who has been missing since Friday. According to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD), Brandon L. Smith was last seen walking in the 5400 block of McGrath Blvd. in Rockville. He was wearing black and green plaid pajama pants with a gray Champion hoodie and a royal blue North Face jacket. Police said Smith was also carrying a gray plastic bowl with a bag of cereal inside.
