DeKALB – The city of DeKalb is considering a plan to place a portion of South Fourth Street within a tax increment financing district to encourage more economic development in the area, documents show. A Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) has been proposed for South Fourth Street from Taylor Street to Interstate 88 and portions of the area between South Second Street at the railroad tracks, according to documents released ahead of Monday’s DeKalb City Council meeting.

DeKALB – A DeKalb Wendy’s fast food restaurant has been deemed uninhabitable after a weekend fire, according to a city ruling posted on the eatery’s windows. A sign posted on multiple places around the Wendy’s announced the building is undergoing maintenance until Monday. As of Sunday night, the DeKalb Fire Department hasn’t yet publicly released more details on the Saturday fire at the Wendy’s, 1321 Sycamore Road, near Hopkins Park and across the street from Jewel-Osco grocer.
Plainfield man arrested on domestic battery, drug, and weapons charges

Joliet — Joliet Police arrested a 52-year-old Plainfield man on charges of domestic battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of ammunition, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, endangering the life or health of a child, manufacture and delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession of explosives. According to police, Jonah Madia was arrested Friday, Feb.

MORRISON — “Mystics and Fantasy” is the theme for Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s annual Family Concert. Set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday [Feb. 18], in the Morrison High School auditorium, the program will open with French composer Paul Dukas’ “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which inspired the Disney movie of the same name. The orchestra’s conductor is Brian Dollinger, and Karl Wolf, a member of the Symphony’s board of directors, will narrate the piece.

Dear Amy: My wife, kids and I had a wonderful time visiting recently with my sister, her new husband, and their daughter, “Evie,” at their home in Florida. My kids love getting together with their cousin Evie. I was very bothered that during our time there, Evie always had a vaping pen in her hand. No matter what else she was doing, she was constantly vaping. On several occasions, I observed her going onto the “smoking porch” with her folks and my wife, and vaping while the adults smoked.

Marshall-Putnam 4-H along with Marshall-Putnam Master Gardeners are offering the Learn-Grow-Share SPIN (special interest) club to all youth ages 8 to 18. The club will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 29 at the Marshall-Putnam Extension office, 509 Front St., Henry. Seneca sends 5 to state: At the Class 1A Hope Academy Sectional contested Friday and Saturday, Seneca scored championships at 157 pounds from Gunner Varland and 215 courtesy of Chris Peura, two of the team’s school-record five qualifiers to the IHSA Individual State Finals held Thursday-Saturday at State Farm Center in Champaign-Urbana.
