On Wednesday, September 25, just off of Loop 171 on a property that can only be described as extravagant with a touch of southern flair against a rolling plains backdrop, the next generation of Pampa Harvesters played catch as their parents and coaches mingled and socialized with one another. With one loud whistle, the kids came running toward the barn, red-faced and sweating from their rigorous play.

The Pampa Harvesters (2-3) traveled up the road on Highway 70 to face the Perryton Rangers (2-3) in the final tuneup before district play begins on Oct. 11 at Hereford. The game was played on Ranger Field under beautiful weather of sunny skies and light wind. The one complaint about the weather was unusually warm weather in the upper 80s, a rarity this late in September. It was homecoming for the Rangers. Before the game, Perryton recognized the Bilyeu family on the loss of Kaley.

A 63-year-old Sparta woman died in a Sept. 19 crash at U.S. 70 and Tucker Reed Lane, in White County. According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, Patrick H. Flaherty, 56, was driving a 2012 Buick Lacrosse and traveling westbound on U.S. 70 (Smithville Highway) around Tucker Reed Lane. Flaherty reportedly crossed in the eastbound lane and struck a 2005 Dodge Dakota driven by 63-year-old Bridgette A. Rice who was traveling eastbound.

Mayor Jerry Lowery administered the oath of office to two new police officers at the Sept. 19 meeting of Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen. After the swearing-in of the new officers, Michael Shank and Aaron Light, the board made quick work of approving the items on the agenda including the declaration of a number of surplus items that had been owned or seized by the city. Items came from the police, water, electric, and street departments.

(Sept. 25, 2024) - White County Warriorette volleyball went 3-0 against LaVergne recently. The Warriorettes stayed on the road to face off against the LaVergne Wolverines, at 6 p.m. Sept. 26. White County will be strutting in after a victory, while LaVergne will be coming in after a loss. On Sept. 24, White County got the win against Warren County by a conclusive 3-0. White County was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-23, 25-22.

Be sure to stop by Laura’s Country Kitchen, located at 2420 Alcock, on Friday, September 27, between 7 AM and 8 PM where a percentage of the day’s proceeds will go toward the Wreaths Across America project that Altrusa of Pampa is currently working on. The project will provide wreaths for all 2,475 veteran graves located at both the Fairview and Memorial Gardens cemetaries in Pampa.
