New annual appointments were made to the White County Board of Commissioners during its September meetingCommissioner Derrick Hutchings was appointed as chairman for the board of commissioners for the next 12 months, while David Cranford was appointed vice-chairman. Hutchings replaces Kyle Goff who had served as chairman for the term from September 2023 through August 2024. Lanny Selby was appointed as the committee’s parliamentarian.

Friends, concerned residents, and former White County High School basketball players who were coached by Roy Whited more than two decades ago gathered at the WCHS gym, on Sept. 17, to hear updates about the search for the beloved community member who disappeared more than four months ago. Whited was reported missing May 3, 2024.

White County FFA senior Griffen Burton was selected to attend Tennessee’s Future Farmer Conference. The inaugural Tennessee Future Farmer Conference, sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America, was held Sept. 3-6, 2024, at Tennessee FFA Camp Clements. The event brought together 30 aspiring agriculturalists for an immersive learning experience. The four-day conference aimed to equip students interested in production agriculture for future careers in the field.

A 63-year-old Sparta woman died in a Sept. 19 crash at U.S. 70 and Tucker Reed Lane, in White County. According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, Patrick H. Flaherty, 56, was driving a 2012 Buick Lacrosse and traveling westbound on U.S. 70 (Smithville Highway) around Tucker Reed Lane. Flaherty reportedly crossed in the eastbound lane and struck a 2005 Dodge Dakota driven by 63-year-old Bridgette A. Rice who was traveling eastbound.
