Fall in number of primary pupils getting first choice school The number of Isle of Wight pupils getting their first choice primary school place for September has fallen year on year. Latest figures from the Isle of Wight Council show 91.5 per cent of students were given their top pick of school — down from 96.9 per cent last year. Year on year there was also a drop in the number of applications, from 1,024 to 998.

Walk the Wight is celebrating its 35th year (Image: Mountbatten) With just weeks left to sign up, Mountbatten Isle of Wight is calling for support to mark Walk the Wight's 35th anniversary. The hospice charity is inviting people to make sunflowers to create a unique garden display. Walk the Wight started in 1991, when Bill Bradley and Frank Stevens organised a team-building walk for 25 colleagues from H.W. Moreys, a local timber and builders’ merchant.

Almost six decades after being sold by British Railways, Ashey Station has been purchased by the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The purchase includes the full station grounds, buildings and land to the north.
