For Krista Powers, the connection to Mount Helix dates back to when she was a kid. “I just remember it was a great place to crawl around and play, and tons of rocks and trees to climb on," Powers said. What was once her childhood playground has now become her passion as she's taken on the role as Executive Director of the Mt. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Beach erosion is shrinking shorelines along the California coast, and in Oceanside, it's pretty visible. "There’s no beach… that’s pretty much the biggest thing that I've noticed," Oceanside resident Jessica Shanahan said. Coastal Zone administrator Jayme Timberlake tells ABC 10News the city’s beach loss is part of a bigger issue.

Today’s highs are similar to the weekend. Coastal areas will be seeing low to upper 60s, valleys are in the low 70s, the mountains with slightly higher than average temperatures in the upper 60s and the deserts staying warm in the mid to upper 80s.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This was the last picture Diana Torroledo took on her phone before disaster struck… Just moments later, a sudden surge of high surf dragged both her boyfriend Ash and her into the ocean. Rescue crews raced to help. Firefighters, lifeguards, and a helicopter team searched for them in the water, battling strong winds and rough waves. Both were pulled from the surf, but Diana was unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital with traumatic injuries.

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — For the past six months, 11-year-old Alexia Martinez has been in and out of the hospital, battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This disease affects thousands of children across the country each year. Since her diagnosis, she stopped attending school in person. Even everyday activities, like going to a birthday party, can put her health at risk. "Chemo can make my white blood cells a little bit lower, and when your white cells are lower, you can get sick," Alexia said.
