In an April 14 press release, the Hood River County Health Department confirmed one case and identified two probable cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, or CJD — a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative condition with a 100% fatality rate. Two of the individuals have died, officials said. The disease is related to mad cow disease and can lead to symptoms such as confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, seizures, psychological disturbances and a loss of coordination.

Gray skies and drizzle greeted the Bay Area on Thursday morning, but change is on the way. Spring is warming up the Bay Area, with temperatures expected to steadily climb through the weekend and into next week, the National Weather Service said. "Today, we're going to be warm into lower 60s, and then as we head Friday into the weekend, we'll start to see more areas reaching into the low to mid-70s across the interior valleys," said Rachel Kennedy, a Bay Area meteorologist with the weather service.
