WHEELING, W.Va. — New developments have been announced for the WVU Medicine Regional Cancer Institute, which is now set to open in October 2028, nearly a year ahead of schedule. The facility will be the only National Cancer Institute in West Virginia and is expected to welcome its first patients in the fall of 2028. The institute will offer a comprehensive range of treatments, including medical and radiational oncology, a melanoma center, infusions, and imaging.

WHEELING, W.Va. — The Wheeling Fire Department has unveiled its new state-of-the-art, $1.1 million rescue truck, an addition that officials have anticipated for two and a half years. It's arrival marks the first time the city will have two fully equipped rescue trucks, significantly enhancing emergency response capabilities. With the new vehicle, response times, which can range from 1 to 1.5 hours, are expected to decrease to about 40 minutes, officials say.

Downtown Wheeling's coffee shops, heavily reliant on international coffee beans, are facing uncertainty amid discussions of potential tariffs. "We sell a lot of Mexican, Costa Rican, Guatemalan. Our house blend is actually a blend of Tanzania and Papua New Guinea. It's coming from all over the world," said Grant Coleman, owner of Mugshots. According to the National Coffee Association, 99% of the coffee consumed in the U.S. is imported.

On Wednesday morning, West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack presented a $20,000 unclaimed property check to the city of Wheeling. It is part of a broader statewide program that returned $2.3 million in March alone and more than $30 million in 2024. City officials said the $20,000 will be used to enhance the downtown streetscape project. "I mean, that's an alley way, I mean that's half a roadway," Vice Mayor and 4th Ward Councilman Jerry Sklavounakis said.

WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling Health Right's 29th Annual Chef's Auction kicked off Tuesday with a breakfast at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. The organization, a free and charitable clinic, provides medication, healthcare, and dental services to nearly 30,000 people in the Ohio Valley. To support the cause, restaurants from across the region will participate in a live auction featuring dinner packages, get-away trips, and more.
