LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - During a special ceremony at the Laredo ISD Performing Arts Center, 145 teachers were recognized and rewarded for their outstanding performance in the classroom. On Monday, May 5th, the teachers received the Teacher Incentive Allotment from the Texas Education Agency. The program provides financial support to teachers to help cover their expenses and serves as a way to show appreciation for their dedication to helping students achieve success in their education.
Dead body found in Northern Webb County

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Webb County Sheriff’s Office confirms the discovery of a dead body as of Sunday, May 4th. The agency gave KGNS this confirmation shortly after 5:30pm Sunday evening. We were told that they had gotten a call about a deceased person in the northern part of Webb County. No official next of kin notification has been made, and the investigation is in its early stages. On Thursday, May 1, protesters gathered at the intersection of McPherson Rd. and Gale St. for multiple causes. Protesters held signs supporting veterans, workers, bodily autonomy and actions taken by the current administration that some believe could be felt at the local level.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A woman was taken to San Antonio on Thursday morning, May 1, after being reportedly shot in the hand. The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. at Jarvis Plaza in Downtown Laredo. We have been informed that the individual may have been under the influence of some substance, as she was found in a state of undress. The 32-year-old woman was taken to Laredo Medical Center in stable condition.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A severe crash on the evening of April 30 sent one person to the hospital, according to the Rio Bravo Fire Department. The accident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Hwy 83, one mile before the county line, when a silver four-door car collided with a Ford pickup truck. The driver of the car is believed to have suffered a broken leg and was taken to Laredo Medical Center for treatment. There is no word yet on the cause of the accident. Man wanted for sexually assaulting minor extradited to Laredo

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - After years on the run, two countries worked together to find a man wanted for sexually assaulting a minor. 59-year-old Roosevelt Mitchell was wanted by Harris County. With the assistance of U.S. marshals, he was apprehended and returned to the U.S. through Nuevo Laredo. Man indicted for allegedly trafficking boots made from sea turtles

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Laredo grand jury has indicted a Houston man for his alleged involvement in trafficking boots made from endangered sea turtles. The five-count indictment accuses Alejandro Hernandez of smuggling the boots into the U.S. and illegally selling them via mail. Hernandez is said to have run an online store where he marketed and sold custom boots made from various animal skins, claiming they were genuine handmade items from Mexico.

We’re told they will need to send fresh samples Monday morning, and because of this, the Boil Water Notice will remain in place.
