LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a family’s home. On Sunday, May 25, a fire was reported at a mobile home located on the 4500 block of Alvarado Lane. The homeowners told KGNS that they lost power shortly before they noticed smoke coming from one of the rooms. The individuals inside the home managed to escape before the Laredo Fire Department arrived. Currently, fire department officials are leading the investigation.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - As summer approaches, dangerous heat may lead to life-threatening situations. The Laredo Fire Department is reporting new numbers regarding heat-related emergencies. From April 1 to May 20 of this year, they have responded to 23 calls. Last year, from April to May, they received 44 calls. LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Teenagers are nearing the end of the school year, and a federal program is preparing to assist them in finding jobs. Workforce Solutions for South Texas is promoting its Summer Paid Work Experience program, which offers teens practical, hands-on work experience. To qualify for the program, students must be between 16 and 24 years old and registered in a government assistance program, such as CHIP or Medicaid.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - On Saturday, May 17, Laredo is throwing a big birthday bash in celebration of its 270th anniversary. The event is organized by the Webb County Heritage Foundation, which is preparing an all-day celebration filled with activities that will last most of the day. Festivities will kick off at San Agustin Plaza at 10 a.m. with musical performances by the Laredo Philharmonic and the mariachi band from Martin High School.
