LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo residents are weighing in after city officials announced plans to launch a major water infrastructure improvement project beginning next week. The $11.3 million project, set to begin Monday, June 16, will span 17 major roadways across the city, officials said. In its first phase, the project will focus on replacing waterlines that have been responsible for more than 200 breaks.

To prevent this number from rising, a 5K walk is being organized for September to raise awareness of 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The event will take place at North Central Park and be hosted by the Area Health Education Center (AHEC). During the event, various agencies will be present to inform everyone about the mental health resources available to them.
