Woman arrested in Zapata County after drugs found during traffic stop

Zapata County, TX. (KGNS) - A woman is facing charges after deputies with the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office find drugs during a traffic stop. Eva Linette Garcia was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. The bust happened on May 7 when sheriff’s deputies pulled over a blue passenger car with expired registration near Highway 83 and 1st Avenue.

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department kicked off National Police Week by hosting its annual 5K and 10K event. Over thousands of runners laced up their running shoes and hit the starting line at the El Metro Park and Ride and rushed to the finish line for the Back the Blue Run. Each runner received a black the blue medal and prizes were also given to the largest law enforcement agency, the largest group and largest school to take part.

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A car allegedly involved in a chase with law enforcement crashes into a house in west Laredo Saturday morning. Laredo Fire crews were called out to the 2900 block of San Bernardo at around 5:30 a.m., that’s where a car drove into a house while a 17-year-old was sleeping in her room. According to the Laredo Fire Department, the car was involved in a chase with authorities when it crashed, leaving behind three minors inside the car.

On Saturday, May 10, American Legion Post 59 will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery to place new American flags on the graves of veterans. For several years, the American Legion and other veterans’ organizations, along with community members, have placed thousands of flags at the cemetery.
