(WDHN) —The area-wide heat advisory has ended for the foreseeable future & our attention turns to what is soon to be Hurricane Idalia. Hurricane Idalia is still barely moving in the northwest Caribbean- in fact, has drifted south in the last few hours leading up to 10 pm CDT Sunday night; The current pressure continues to fall- a sign of strengthening- & official sustained winds near 60 mph might instead be close to hurricane strength already (74 mph).

(WDHN) — Quite a bit to write about, so let’s get to it. Sunday will be the last day for an area-wide heat advisory for the foreseeable future. Expect high temperatures to be 97 to 101 then add the effects of humidity, and the temps in the afternoon will feel like 99 to 107; Thunderstorms, some quite strong will erupt after mid-afternoon, especially into Sunday night; expect a 30-40% storm chance increasing to 60% for Monday afternoon & evening.

(WDHN) — Only a few thunderstorms have erupted Sunday afternoon, but t-storms in east and central Alabama may make it to our area during the evening hours. No severe thunderstorm warnings so far on Sunday. The Excessive Heat Warning will continue thru Monday with a Heat Advisory likely Tuesday for our area; high temperature for Wed thru next weekend looks to be lower, around 92 to 95 for most of us.

(WDHN) — Expect the excessive heat advisories to persist thru Monday into Tuesday before the hot temperatures retreat by midweek. Several strong & a few severe thunderstorms raked our area late Saturday afternoon & early evening with numerous short-term power outages & several large tree limbs broken off mainly older trees- no injuries seem to be reported.

(WDHN) — Heat Advisories continue through early next week & the high temperatures are expected to be 93 to 96 next week; T-Storm chances, for now, break down like this: Sunday- 60%, Monday- 20%, Tuesday- 50%, Wednesday- 30%, Thursday- 40%, Friday- 50%, Saturday- 40%.
