No shots fired at Dothan’s Southside Walmart despite rumors

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — On Friday afternoon, rumors began flying around that there was an active shooter at a Dothan Walmart. However, police say no shots were ever fired. Around 4 p.m. Friday, reports came down that shots had been fired at the Walmart on Dothan’s southside. According to Dothan Police, those rumors were proven false, but a fight occurred inside the business. Police told WDHN that two men were arguing in the store, and one punched the other.

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — One Wiregrass veteran has another honor to add to his resume, the latest coming from U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville. Enterprise native, Travis Parker, was named the Alabama Veteran of the Month for April. Parker was drafted during the Vietnam War, and though he did not go overseas, he found his role in the military as a medic. Once soldiers returned to the states, Parker served them and treated them for their wounds.

(WDHN) — Before last Friday, the Wiregrass Commons Mall did not have a single business operating within its food court, but now that’s changed. 2XL Pizza is bringing that coveted New York style pizza to the mall but with their own twist. Robert Crawford and Andrea Mitchell, the owners, recently moved to the Wiregrass and they wanted to bring some life back to the mall, while serving good food.

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — The White House has started a two-year countdown for food manufacturers to rid the nation’s food supply of artificial food dyes. Citing health concerns, largely among children, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believes these additives harm children without adding any nutrients. Those food dyes are commonly used in candy, cereal, pastries, and even gum. Now, new studies link them to an increase in behavioral and hormonal problems in kids.

ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN)– Several agencies are on the scene of a fire at the brand-new Enterprise veterans home. Coffee County EMA officials tell WDHN that around 91 residents have been evacuated from the Benny G. Adkins Veterans Home. Evacuees were transferred to an Enterprise nursing home. According to those officials, the fire is in the attic and still burning, but fire crews are working to contain the flames and stop the fire from spreading. No injuries have been reported.
New candidate announces run at Dothan's District 4 commission seat

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Ahead of August’s municipal election, a Dothan businessman has thrown his hat into the race for District 4’s commissioner seat. Josh Chapman, owner of Open Key Property Management, announced his candidacy for the position. District 4’s current commissioner is John Ferguson, who has served his constituents for 12 years after being elected in 2013. In a release, Chapman describes himself as a devoted husband and father.
Man wanted for failure to appear on Attempted Homicide charges detained

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WDHN) — A man accused of Attempted Murder is behind bars after police in Florida arrested him in Jackson County Tuesday morning. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Brian Rich was arrested for a failure to appear warrant, which was for attempted homicide out of Washington County. JCSO says U.S. Marshals had been trying to locate Rich for several months, and that a tip showed that he was living in Jackson County.
Popular Dothan brewery, restaurant closing

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — In a surprising twist, a popular spot in downtown Dothan is closing next week. Circle City Brewing Co. took to Facebook Monday night, announcing that their final days of operation will be April 15. “We vow to make this last week with you the absolute best and guarantee the same great service, food and drinks that you have come to expect from us,” The brewery said in its post.

Crews Wright appeared on Monday night’s American Idol in the nail-biting head-to-head duet round, performing ‘How Great Thou Art!’ with Kam’Ron Smith. Wright had advanced into the top 48 after Sunday’s show, needing just one more stellar performance to claim his spot in the live rounds.
