DULUTH, Minn. — 25 years ago, Dave Hoops left California and returned to the northland where he was born. “I moved to Duluth, Christmas, ’99 with my wife and newborn daughter,” Dave Hoops, Owner of Hoops Brewing said. Dave went from brewing on the West Coast to taking over the reins of one of Minnesota’s four breweries at the time. “January, 1, 2000 I took over Fitger’s Brewhouse, which at that point had been brewing fairly small amount of beer they’d started.

DULUTH, Minn. — This weekend, the Great Lakes Aquarium held a birthday celebration for two of its most popular animals. The two female otters, Agate and Ore, turned 12 years old this year. Each year to celebrate, the aquarium holds a birthday party for the otters, which includes crafts, a birthday cake and animal encounters. The otters were rescued and brought to Duluth after breaking into a craw fish farm in Louisiana when they were around a year old.

DULUTH, Minn. — With Easter right around the corner, the 10th annual Egg-Splosion event was held in Lincoln Park. Northern Expressions Arts Collective hosted Egg-Splosion at the Harrison Community Center on Saturday. The Easter event welcomed community members to have fun with games and crafts. With the rising price of eggs, this year the event was budget friendly as wooden and plastic eggs were decorated instead. The free event allows for kids and families to have fun at no cost.

DULUTH, Minn. — All aboard!!! Minnesota’s largest model train set returned to the St. Louis County Depot this weekend. While the Depot is home to many large trains, this time they were scaled down. A dozen members of the Minnesota Free-Mo Modelers came together to create the miniature model. Small trains whistled through the varying landscapes of the model, from the country side, to city skylines. The team built and assembled around 30 modules by hand to create the model.
