A police officer who raped a woman he met on a dating website has been jailed for eight years and will be on the sex offender register for the rest of his life. PC Stuart Mines, 49, was off-duty when the attack took place at his home in Devon in October 2022. Following his conviction by a jury following a trial at Exeter Crown Court he was sacked by Devon and Cornwall Police after more than 20 years’ service.

A man from Keynsham has pleaded guilty to killing a mother and daughter in a crash on the M4. Firas Zeineddine, 46, appeared before Swindon Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to two charges of causing death by careless driving. The charges relate to the deaths of Cheryl Woods, 61, and Sarha Smith, 40, of Caerphilly, who were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on October 20 2023. The women were involved in the crash on the M4 between junction 17 for Chippenham and junction 18 for Bath.

A woman stabbed her ex-partner to death after “planning” the attack with her daughter and her partner, a court has heard. Helen Shakespeare, her daughter Letisha Goodwin, 30, and Anthony Hillier, 33, are charged with the murder of Raymond Groves, 48, from Bristol, on July 2 last year.

A friend of a man accused of killing a baby warned him not to fall for the “lies” of his then partner when she asked him to say they had bathed the child together, a court heard today, Tuesday, March 11. Jack Wheeler, 31, is on trial alongside his ex-partner, Melissa Wilband, 28, charged with the manslaughter of four-month-old Lexi Wilband. The emergency services were called to Wilband’s home in Newent, Gloucestershire, on the evening of April 12, 2020, after Lexi suddenly collapsed.

Liam Payne was “sectioned” after suffering an overdose in the months before his death in October last year, a close friend of the late singer has claimed. One Direction star Payne died aged 31 on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Payne’s close friend Roger Nores said Payne’s father, Geoff, had the singer sectioned following a serious drug overdose in May.
