    Australian ski areas have had a dream start to the season as a major snowstorm, potentially the largest in three years, has moved in on an Antarctic polar weather system from the south. A number of resorts reported their 48 hour snowfall total had passed 50cm (20”) by the end of the ski day on Sunday, June 8th.  The snowstorm is continuing however with a further 20-40cm (8-16”) forecast over the next 36 hours.

    The 2025 season is underway with ski areas in Australia the first to open this year. Most Australian ski centres opened today, Saturday 7th June, with this weekend extending into Monday, a public holiday ion most of the country’s states to celebrate King Charles 3rd’s birthday. Their opening coincides with what’s expected to be the country’s biggest snowstorm in three years, with 2-3 feet of snowfall expected by Tuesday. So far there’s been 15-20cm.

    After a sub-optimal few weeks, in terms of natural snowfall, in the run-up to Australia’s 2025 season opening weekend, a major storm system is expected to bring the best part of a metre (40”) of snowfall to the country’s ski areas from Saturday, over the first four days of the season.

    Two friends, Reuben Gray (Britain’s Got Talent) and Matt Brinkley, will take on 801 miles of walking from central London to Val Thorens, in the French Alps, both wearing ski boots and ski clothing. The walk will take 45 days and will take them from through Kent to Dover, across to Dunkirk (by ferry) through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Switzerland – ending in Val Thorens.

    Two friends, Reuben Gray and Matt Brinkley, are planning to walk 801 miles from London to the highest ski resort in the Alps, Val Thorens, wearing ski boots and ski clothing, in a charity fundraiser. The 45 day walk, dubbed No Lifts, Just Legs, aims to raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Snow Camp, a charity which aims to transform young lives through snow sports.
