New laws which will limit the use of AirBnb and other short-term rentals in large towns and cities will come to Cabinet today, after being delayed last week. The Short-Term Lettings Bill will include restrictions to prevent homeowners from renting out properties for more than 90 days a year if they live in an area with a population greater than 10,000. This would, in effect, prevent individuals who are short-term letting properties on a full-time basis from operating in large towns and cities.

Pharmaceutical and semiconductor manufacturing must form part of EU-US talks on trade, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said. His comments come as it was confirmed Ireland is the second biggest pharma exporter in the EU, with exports reaching a record â¬313.4bn last year. These exports were primarily bound for the US, with 38.2% travelling across the Atlantic.

Former tánaiste Simon Coveney has taken on a new role as a consultant with EY Ireland. Mr Coveney previously served as a minister in a number of briefs — including foreign affairs, agriculture and enterprise — however, he called time on a political career that spanned four decades after opting not to contest last year's election. In a statement, EY Ireland said the former Cork South Central TD would join its geopolitical strategy team.

The businessman and Fine Gael politician John Mullins has died aged 57. Mr Mullins was the Fine Gael candidate for Ireland South in last year's European elections, having been selected to run in place of the retiring Deirdre Clune. Originally from Bishopstown in Cork, and living in East Cork, he was the group chairman of solar energy firm Amarenco and had a long-standing association with Fine Gael.

The minister for education has warned schools that she will use her powers to force them to open special needs classes, with one school set to be compelled in the next week. The Department of Education on Friday confirmed that 399 new special needs classes would be created for the 2025/2026 school year. The newly sanctioned classes include 287 primary special classes and 112 post-primary special classes.
