If you’d been noticing a heavier police presence downtown and the southern parts of Kamloops over the last week or so, the Mounties have an explanation. RCMP have confirmed a series of busts have taken place over the course of the last week or so, with the Crime Reduction Unit expanding their uniform presence on the streets, targeting those who have been under previous surveillance by the Mounties.

The flow of train traffic up and down the North Thompson corridor has resumed. It had been suspended, following a derailment near Barriere yesterday afternoon. Canadian National confirms the tracks were repaired and trains began moving in the early afternoon on Thursday. “CN crews worked safely through the night at the site of the five-car derailment that occurred last evening at 5:40 pm local time near Barriere,” said the railway in a statement.

No reported injuries, but it sounds like there was a bit of mishap during work on the new city gardens apartment complex downtown. In a breif statement from Kelson Group representatives says “what we can say is: that eyewitness reports indicate a portion of the cement roof over the underground parking lot on the site gave way around 11:00 this morning.”That is the location for where the 2nd Tower is going to located.

We now have a timeline for when a municipal promise to the Province will be fulfilled to increase traffic flows to and from Cascades Casino. The City of Kamloops has confirmed that March 15th will see the start of construction to create a 2nd left turn lane off of the Exit 367 off-ramp to Pacific Way. Pacific Way is the quickest access route for those coming up through downtown Kamloops to access popular shopping locations in the area, including Costco, as well as the Aberdeen Mall.

A further lease on life for the New Afton Mine just outside of Kamloops. A geo-technical survey has come back, showing that the mine site has enough gold and copper resources in it to keep operational for at least the next six years. New Gold, which operates the mine just west of Kamloops, says — in fact — that the geo-technical analysis launched last year shows the company is going to be able to ramp up its output.
