    Peebles Woodmarket and Tree Fest was held annually on Tweed Green and in the community centre every October. But the onset of the pandemic in early 2020 brought it to a halt although The Woodmarket in the community centre reconvened in 2023. Now an application to also restart the Tree Fest that goes alongside it on the green will be considered when members of Peebles Common Good Fund Sub Committee meet on Wednesday, June 11.

    A planning application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council by Borders Forest Trust for a structure east of Gameshope Bothy, to the south of Talla Reservoir. The Borders Forest Trust is a charity established to restore native woodland habitats to Southern Scotland. The trust took ownership of the site in 2013 and has embarked upon an extensive habitat restoration project in the area.

    When members of SBC’s decision-making Executive Committee meet next week they will be told the debts cover the areas of Council Tax, non-domestic rates, sundry debtors, Housing Benefit over-payments and aged debt from the balance sheet. The total value of additional debts written off decreased from £657k in 2023/24. The highest amount written off last year was for Council Tax at £226k – compared to £409k in the previous financial year.
