I rarely use the rail network, but for many people it’s a vital part of their day, whether it’s to go to work or college, or meet family and friends. However, we always hear of cancelled or delayed services, or that the train was jam-packed. In fact, I have written stories on the very subject. This included reporting that Shropshire had some of the worst-performing railway stations in the country.

A 20mph zone in Oswestry town centre. Picture: Google North Shropshire’s MP has given her backing to Oswestry Town Council in its bid to extend 20mph speed limits across the town. In October, the town council backed a motion criticising current limits as “inconsistent” and calling for them to be extended to where people are living and shopping. Parts of the town centre became 20mph zones in late 2021, as part of changes to the one-way system aimed at making it safer for pedestrians.

THE fire service has revealed how many times it failed to meet its response time in Herefordshire last year. Responding to a freedom of information request by the Hereford Times, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said that between April 1 and December 31, 2023, 1,704 incidents occurred in Herefordshire, of which 409 were examined (24 per cent).

Responding to a freedom of information (FOI) request by the Hereford Times, there had been 1,334 deaths of patients in the county who still needed treatment. The data was collated from 2019 up to and including April 26, 2024.
