SEATTLE — It's been a long time since I've heard a head coach so fired up and positive after a loss. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll barely had time to decompress after a 17-13 loss to the Bengals, but that did not stop him from praising his players as if they had won.

RENTON, Wash. — If you ask any NFL player, most will tell you they don't want to have a bye week after just four games. To be one of the teams picked to sit on the first designated bye week, is not ideal. Most players want that week to fall around the midway point of the season, so they get a timely rest to recharge for the second half. But considering all the Seahawks' injuries through the first four games, this bye week is exactly what they need.

SEATTLE — The ability to flush. For everyday people like you and me, that phrase may mean the culmination of a private moment behind a closed door. But when you’re an athlete who’s used to playing at a high level, the ability to flush takes on a far different meaning. It's a mental exercise that can be mandatory for success. It’s the ability to forget. The ability to move on to the next week, the next day, or sometimes even the next minute.
