MEDIA — The Media VFW Post 3460 held its annual Awards Luncheon on Sunday, April 13. Awards were presented for service to Veterans, their families and the local community. Gautam Mannem, a seventh grader from Charles F. Patton Middle School in Kennett Square, won for his Patriot Pen essay and Sophia Donnelly, Penncrest senior, won for her Voice of Democracy essay. The Ken Barlow award was presented to Ed Hess Jr., whose father Ed Hess won the award 10 years ago.

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP — Friday, April 25 is a big day for McDaid family members. Their patriarch, James McDaid, is turning 100 years old. McDaid, a resident of the Holmes section of Ridley Township for over seven decades, is the father of six, grandfather of 9, great-grandfather of 14, and great-great grandfather of one. He joked that he hopes to spend his big day enjoying his favorite pastimes: sleeping, and maybe watching a cowboy movie or two on TV.
