With an Army veteran accused of murdering his three elementary-age children, local therapists are pleading for more support for veterans’ mental health services. Heather Hill, owner of Central Washington Veterans Counseling, sent an email Saturday to leaders with the federal Department of Veterans Affairs who work with mental health facilities and urged them to deliver more funding to the area.

A fire at a salvage yard Friday created a plume of smoke that prompted authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order to nearby homes and businesses. Crews were dispatched about 2:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Urban Industrial Way at Wenatchee Valley Salvage and Recycling in East Wenatchee where a machine that bales materials was on fire, according to Chief Brian Brett with the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department.
