    With warm soil temperatures in late March, quite a few acres of soybean were planted in Tennessee, including several of our first planting dates across our trials for 2025. Between April 2nd and 6th, 10 – 15+” of rain fell across our state, particularly in West Tennessee. Then, on the mornings of April 8th & 9th, we had some areas with light to moderate frost. Pictures like the one shown above have been the topic of a few conversations spanning the last 7 days.

    Choosing the optimal seeding rate is a critical component of any crop production system. With soybean it is no different. However, this conversation is a little different than corn. Over the past century, crop production and yield have drastically increased. One of the many reasons for this is due to increasing our planting population or seeding rate. As we hit April in just a few days, it’s time to talk over some considerations for making this work for us in Tennessee. In most cases, increasing yield is the shortest path to higher profit margins.
