Rainfall records at some out properties have been smashed with major flooding set to continue across parts of western Queensland. Major flood warnings are in place for several rivers and some small towns are completely cut off by road. The rain band looks set to head towards the coast in time for the weekend. Heavy rainfall and flooding is expected to continue in outback Queensland today, with stranded locals left to find higher ground on rural properties.

Parts of Queensland's south-west have been hit by sudden rains and flood, with the town of Quilpie recording its wettest day in 15 years. One grazier in the region has recorded more than 350mm of rain in the past 48 hours, and there are fears of large stock losses in the region. Small towns have had properties inundated and roads closed, and the weather bureau says more intense weather is on the way.

Graziers on the brink of drought say the late monsoonal wet that destroyed towns, roads, and farms on the coast may prove to be their saviour. Forecasters are expecting heavy rain to hit Queensland's north from today, with the potential for flooding. A lingering low pressure system could then form a tropical cyclone by the weekend. Australian Restaurant and Cafe Association chief executive Wes Lambered warned the cost of a coffee "could reach double digits" in some capital cities due to the high price of beans. "It isn't unfathomable … in some CBD locations and airports," he said.
