    PENDLETON — The Pendleton City Council is considering approving a five-year contract with with Western States Equipment to perform preventative maintenance on the city’s fleet of standby generators. The council meets Tuesday, March 4, starting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at city hall, 500 SW Dorion Ave. If the council approves the contract, the city will pay $217,995.48 to Western States for the work.

    PENDLETON — Website owner and operator James Tibbets will not be getting into Pendleton City Council's executive sessions anytime soon. The council held a special meeting Tuesday night, Feb. 25, at city hall to determine if Tibbets met criteria as news media to cover the closed-door sessions. The council found him lacking. Tibbets gave a meandering and muddled presentation about his background and his website. His responses to questions from the council often were disconnected and vague.

    PENDLETON — The Pendleton City Council at a special meeting Tuesday, Feb. 25, decides whether a man who operates a local news and opinion website is a media representative who can attend executive sessions. Executive sessions are meetings of a governing body that most members of the public cannot attend. Oregon's public meetings law allows members of the press to attend most executive sessions and report on their general nature but not specifics.

    BOARDMAN — Federal grant funding for the Port of Morrow to operate the Columbia Development Authority is coming to a fast halt. The Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, under the U.S. Department of Defense, sent a notice Friday, Feb. 21, to the port asking for "voluntary termination” of its almost $1 million grant award, which the port uses to fund the CDA.
