Holly Masterson and David Horner have fished together in Southwest Harbor for more than two decades. Last year, they traded lobster traps for sand traps at their 18-hole, waterfront-themed mini golf course located at 55 Main St. Their venture, Golf of Maine, opened for its first season last June. Masterson and Horner purchased the property in 2020 and planned to use it as a vendors market. “But it wasn’t really enough to support the property,” explained Masterson.

There she grows vegetables to store until winter, medicinal herbs to be made into tinctures and flowers to be made into dye. Retired from a life of science-based environmental education and eco tour guiding, Chase spends her days creating art inspired by the life that grows around her. “I saw there was the road and I saw there was the sea and I saw there was a campus in between,” said Andy Goldsworthy, a world-renowned English artist who creates large scale site-specific artworks, of his work at College of the Atlantic (COA) in Bar Harbor. The artwork, called “Road Line,” is of tremendous size and consists of curbstones from quarries in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine laid out in one seamless, winding line from Route 3 across campus and down to Frenchman Bay.
