Officers were dispatched about 8:52 a.m. on April 18 to the 1200 block of North Pearl Street when a man reported his mother was dead in their apartment unit.

An explosion in the back of a garbage truck left the vehicle smoldering in Tacoma on Wednesday. Firefighters were dispatched at 8:57 a.m. to the 3900 block of South 74th Street for a garbage truck on fire. There was also concerns that a building close by was exposed to the fire, Tacoma Fire spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune. Firefighters put out the flames coming out through the back of the truck, she said.

Prosecutors charged Lars Eugene Nelson, 29, with second-degree murder for the shooting that happened at his father’s property in the 800 block of Fox Drive on Sunday, according to charging documents. Emotions ran high during Nelson’s arraignment at Pierce County Superior Court.
