A faculty director from the University of Washington Tacoma is facing a number of criminal charges for allegedly threatening to kill his girlfriend and driving under the influence in Kittitas County. Kurt Dayan Hatch, 55, has been charged by Kittitas County prosecutors with two counts of a protection-order violation, felony harassment, fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence, court records show. He was arrested at the lodge in Suncadia on May 12.

A crash involving four vehicles on a Tacoma highway left one person dead Tuesday night. A pedestrian was walking in one of the lanes on southbound Interstate 705 just south of 11th Street when the vehicles struck them shortly before 11:30 p.m., according to a Washington State Patrol news release. One of the vehicles drove off and stopped at a parking lot off South Union Avenue and South 23rd Street, the release said. Three of the vehicles stopped on the roadway.

The pedestrian died at the scene, the release said.
