But inside, residents say the building located at 2800 W. Wright Street has become dangerous. Two puppies were rescued from a hoarding situation in Texas and taken in by a Milwaukee-based dog rescue. Their foster parents believed the dogs — struggling with anxiety from their past — were later sent to a sanctuary in northern Wisconsin for specialized training. For months, foster parents Samantha Stanfield and Sarah DeSmidt received hopeful updates about the dogs and how they were adapting to the sanctuary's training programs. But there was no northern Wisconsin sanctuary.

When Michael McCoy's tooth suddenly fell out in October, he went to the emergency room at Columbia St. Mary's in Milwaukee for help. After getting his blood pressure and weight checked and a brief wait, McCoy was told there was nothing the hospital could do — but he was still charged $250. McCoy, 67, was sure the charge must be a mistake, so he contacted Public Investigator. But according to Ascension and his insurer, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the bill was correct.
