Depending on which day you ask, hatchbacks are my favourite kind of cars. And most days, I stand by that statement. I suspect it’s my generation – millennials, we’re called – growing up in the hatchback’s heyday. Maybe someone 20 years younger would say the same about SUVs... For me, a hatchback is perfectly practical and the best size for all scenarios: suburban living, tight car park spaces, motorway driving and, most notably, handling on country roads.

Leapmotor will have six cars in its UK line-up by 2027 as it looks to solidify its place as the latest Chinese electric car maker cutting through here. The firm, whose international business is 51% owned by global giant Stellantis, already sells a Dacia Spring rival, the T03, and has just launched the C10 large SUV. A range-extender version will arrive at the end of the year. The B10, an Alfa Romeo Tonale-sized SUV, will come shortly after.

UK vehicle production fell by almost 12% last year and is set to fall further this year – but industry chiefs insist it's a short-term issue due to factories retooling to build new EVs.The figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which includes cars and vans, showed 905,233 units were produced in the UK in 2024. That figure consists of 779,584 cars and 125,649 commercial vehicles.

LBX stands for Lexus Breakthrough Crossover, which seemed a bit silly until I read that all of those other names are also abbreviations: Radiant Crossover, Nimble Crossover and Urban Crossover (still silly but consistent at least).

After Elon Musk bought Twitter (now rebranded X) in 2022, disaffected users began to seek alternatives. Alongside Meta’s Threads and the open source project Mastodon, Bluesky was one of several contenders. Threads benefited from Meta’s existing user base but has failed to capture the popular imagination. Mastodon has proven complicated and difficult to grasp for most ordinary users and so use remains fragmented. Bluesky seemed promising but was in invite-only mode at the time and growth was muted.

The interior and equipment levels in the GT model are hard to fault and it feels top-notch in quality, bar the odd questionable plastic low down, especially for a car of this class. On first entry to the car, the set-up all feels intuitive, as it should be. The layout is aesthetically pleasing, the 10in infotainment touchscreen seems ample and there are toggle switches below it for some of the key functions.
