Met Éireann issued a status yellow rain warning for Cork this evening, which is set to come into effect tomorrow night. The warning, which covers the counties of Cork and Kerry, will be valid from 11pm tomorrow, and will remain in effect until 12pm on Friday. As a result of the weather conditions, the national forecaster is advising that predicted spells of heavy rain may result in localised flooding.

A Cork man, who won €1 million in a National Lottery draw last month, collected his cheque from the lottery HQ in Dublin today. The man, who purchased his ticket from Healy’s SuperValu in Dunmanway, matched all of his numbers in the 9pm Daily Million draw on March 29. Speaking about his win, the man said that it was a “shock to the system” when he realised he had won big for the first time after many years of entries. “I’ve been playing my own personal numbers for well over 20 years,” he said.

Calls have been made to Cork City Council to address the “sinister” trend of organised dog attacks, which are occurring across the Cork city South East ward. A number of attacks, where dogs are being set upon cats, have been observed in the areas of Mahon, Rochestown, Mayfield, and the Glen in recent weeks, leaving family pets physically brutalised or dead.

More than €70,000 in additional funding has been announced for Bantry under the Office of Public Works’ (OPW) Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme. The funding, announced yesterday by the minister of state at the Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform, Kevin Moran, will see an additional €70,907 allocated for planned works in Bantry, which includes the installation of flood barriers at 28 properties.

The licensee of a popular pub in Ballintemple has said they are in “panic mode” following the publication of the proposed route for the Cork Luas line. Con Dennehy, who runs the Venue Bar on the Blackrock Rd with his partner Kate, expressed his shock following the announcement of the route which, under the current plans, would see his premises demolished.
