A court in Waterford has banned a woman from keeping pets for a decade after a distressing case of animal neglect involving a female Collie dog that was left untreated for a severe skin condition. At Waterford City District Court, yesterday, Aileen Ryan from 10 Patrick Square Apartments, Wellington Square, Barker Street, Waterford City failed to appear before Judge Kevin Staunton to face charges under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013, in relation to a female Collie dog named Shadow.

The heartbroken parents of a six-year-old boy who died of a cardiac arrest - less than 24 hours after they brought him to the A&E department at CUH - have again asked for the full facts to be released to them. Logan Murphy from Macroom, Co Cork, died in Cork University Hospital (CUH) on August 13th last year. His parents were at his bedside. A healthy, happy boy, he had been admitted to the hospital with chest and abdominal pain and rapidly deteriorated.

There is a shiny new bridge over the river Lee at historic French's Quay this morning, linking the former Beamish & Crawford Brewery to the south bank. The new pedestrian bridge is one of two that are planned for the area - the other will go into place shortly, linking the other side of the former brewery site to the South Main Street, where a huge regeneration project is also nearing completion.

A man in his early 30s has lost his fight for life in Cork University Hospital after being stabbed in Youghal last night. Part of the main street in the town remains closed this morning as forensic investigators examine the scene of the attack, outside a bar where the man was set upon by an assailant armed with a blade. The incident happened at around 10pm, close to the Supervalu store in the centre of the seaside town.

Any plans for the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend had better include raincoats and warm clothes as the weather will not exactly be bright and warm, according to the latest forecasts. The long-range forecast is for the unsettled weather to continue, with temps falling to around -1 overnight and Met Eireann saying we could have a 'touch of frost' that will not delight gardeners, even if the rain has been welcome after more than a week of dry conditions.
