    Lawn mowing beer, Dad beer, beach beer. These are some of the nicknames for American light lager, a style commonly associated with mass-produced beer from the Midwest. Clark County brewers are taking this ubiquitous beer and transforming it into something light and crisp, but with more flavor and balance than those produced by large beverage corporations.     Steak Your Claim opened in Orchards in 2024. At the time, co-owner Matt Schiffman contacted me to try his shop’s East Coast specialty sandwiches. I have no idea what took me so long to get there, but I’m glad I finally made the trip. A native Philadelphian, Schiffman moved to Portland and found a lack of his beloved cheesesteak sandwiches.

    Since Christine and Doug Ellenberger of Everybody’s Brewing in White Salmon took over Northwood brewpub in Battle Ground, the only noticeable differences are in the beers on tap and merch at the entrance.
