    The first measles death in nearly a decade was reported in Texas as outbreaks are growing and cases have now started popping up on the East Coast. Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York City are on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2025 map for measles cases. Every case is someone who has not been fully vaccinated or whose status is unknown. Vaccines effectively eradicated measles by 2000, but outbreaks since then have brought vaccine hesitancy to the forefront.

    A legislative services audit on Baltimore City Public Schools confirmed what some vendors have said for years, that they’ve failed to receive payments on time, if at all. The audit released Tuesday said city schools improperly awarded $5.1 million worth of contracts, and 12% of invoices between July 2021 and February 2023 were paid more than 90 days after the invoice date.
