FORT SMITH — A 56-year-old Hackett man admitted he molested a girl from the time she was 3 years old until she was 6 and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Jamie Leon Speaks pleaded guilty Monday morning in Sebastian County Circuit Court to second-degree sexual assault of a victim less than 14 years old and as a habitual offender with two previous felony convictions. Prosecutors agreed to bring no additional charges against Speaks in exchange for his guilty plea.

FORT SMITH -- The city's Board of Directors approved an order Friday acknowledging the city had given funds to area nonprofits in violation of the state constitution. The agreed order came about following a lawsuit filed against the city by Jimmie Cavin of Conway. Cavin gained notoriety in September when he was involved in a fistfight at a Saline County Republican Committee meeting.

FORT SMITH -- The Fort Smith School Board will vote on hiring a new head coach for Northside High School at Monday night's regular meeting. Dominic Mirocke, former assistant head coach for Arkansas Tech University, is listed on the board's agenda as being the next head football coach and campus athletic coordinator for Northside High School under the Board of Education's personnel recommendations.

FORT SMITH -- Fort Smith police have fired six officers following an internal investigation, the department announced Monday. Investigators with the Fort Smith Police Department Office of Professional Standards were made aware of alleged hazing, belittling, and dangerous "horseplay" by certain officers assigned to the night shift patrol on Dec. 10, according to a news release from the department.
