After Mother Nature again postponed play for the Pagosa Springs High School Pirate baseball team in Cortez on Saturday, the teams faced off Monday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they returned home with two league losses to the Panthers. The Pirates, who now own a 7-6 record and are 0-4 in league play, are now looking ahead to a string of home games and the bigger picture as the season nears its end.

The Pagosa Springs High School (PSHS) track and field team took part in the 15-team Ron Keller Invitational Monday in Durango after the event was rescheduled from Saturday due to inclement weather. “Yesterday was really windy, but at least it wasn’t snowing. It was a good meet with some good competition, coach Connie O’Donnell wrote in a Tuesday email to The SUN.

The Pagosa Springs High School Pirate baseball team was dealt its first losses of the season over the last week, with the team moving to a 7-4 record. But, despite the losses, coach Ben Garcia indicated he’s proud of how the team responded Tuesday against Durango after falling to Alamosa on April 12. The Pirates believed in themselves, he noted. The Pirates opened league play on Saturday, April 12, in Alamosa, where they lost both halves of the day’s doubleheader.

More Pagosa Springs High School records were broken at last weekend’s 36-team Thunder-Storm Invitational in Pueblo, despite the team being without some of its athletes, who were performing in the school’s production of “The Wizard of Oz.”The meet was held at Colorado State University Pueblo’s Thunderbowl on April 12. “The Thunderbowl is a beautiful facility,” coach Connie O’Donnell wrote in an email to The SUN. “It was really quite the experience to compete there.

The draft environmental assessment for the Town of Pagosa Springs’ Pagosa Gateway Project is now available through the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). The comment period on the draft assessment is open until May 16. According to a letter from Ed Warner, area manager for the Western Colorado Area Office of the DOI, “A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) was prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act.
