A three-story housing project proposed for Goleta doesn’t fit in with its neighborhood, Design Review Board members and nearby residents said. A 10-unit apartment building is planned for the vacant lot at 7020 Calle Real next to the One Stop Shop Market and Liquor store. Story poles are at the project site, and the developers went to the Goleta Design Review Board on Tuesday for a conceptual review hearing.

Rite Aid has declared bankruptcy and plans to immediately close 115 stores across the country, including 21 stores in California. Santa Barbara County’s five stores have been spared from the first round of closures, according to court documents filed as part of company’s bankruptcy. The drug store company entered voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court District of New Jersey on May 5, according to a news release from the company.

UC Santa Barbara will have to find alternative housing for the incoming chancellor because the on-campus University Chancellor House needs extensive renovations. The UC Regents, the governing board for the UC system, is expected to vote Wednesday to authorize delegates to secure a rental for the new chancellor, who has yet to be selected. Current Chancellor Henry Yang, who is one of the longest-serving chancellors in the UC system, is stepping down at the end of this school year.

After 23 months of negotiations, it seems that the Carpinteria Unified School District and the employee union have struck a deal. The tentative agreement includes a 5% salary increase for employees, a $3,000 stipend for special education teachers, and bonuses for current and recently retired employees.
