    COLUSA COUNTY — A woman found dead in the Sacramento River in Colusa County in 1991 has been identified decades later, authorities said Friday. The woman was identified as Betty Jo Evans, born on October 4, 1961. Evans had been living in Yuba City at the time, the Colusa County Sheriff's Office said, and was possibly homeless. Detectives went to the river on August 13, 1991, after a farmer reported finding a dead person in the water, about a mile south of the Meridian Bridge.

    SACRAMENTO — Mark Orr, the Sacramento State athletics director, was appointed to a new role on the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee, the university announced Thursday. Sac State said Orr will serve on the eight-member committee as the Big Sky Conference representative. His four-year term begins on September 1, 2024.

    YUBA CITY — A Lexus containing the bodies of two men was found submerged in a Northern California canal. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the car was tied to a missing persons alert issued on behalf of the Yuba City Police Department in mid-July. A CHP division in Glenn County said it was notified by the sheriff's office that a deputy had found the submerged vehicle in the Glenn Colusa Canal, located just south of Hamilton City along Highway 45.

    SACRAMENTO — Mayor Darrell Steinberg said Tuesday that Rio City Café in Old Sacramento will close on Saturday. Steinberg made the announcement in a statement released by his office. He said, to remain open, the owners of the restaurant needed immediate access to the deck which was closed by the city earlier this year after structural engineers deemed it unsafe. The deck is owned by the city and repairs would cost around $5 million. However, the city can't fix it because of a massive budget deficit.

    COHASSET — Two women were arrested for illegally entering an area in Butte County under a mandatory evacuation order due to the Park Fire in Northern California, authorities said Tuesday. Cohasset resident Delmara Apel, 41, and Chico resident Amy Jackson, 43, were booked into the Butte County Jail and face charges of unlawfully entering an evacuation zone, the county Sheriff's Office said.
