Rumeysa Ozturk, a 30-year-old Turkish doctoral candidate at Boston's Tufts University who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement back in March, is set to return to Massachusetts on Saturday after a judge ordered she be released. Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges in court on Monday after taking a $7,000 kickback from a staff member. The 46-year-old council member was charged with one count of wire fraud and theft involving federal funds. She will be sentenced on July 29. The government recommended one year and one day in prison, as well as three years of supervised release and $13,000 in restitution, as per a plea agreement she entered in April.

Commuter Rail hits and kills 97-year-old man in truck A 78-year-old man is dead after a Commuter Rail train hit a pick-up truck that was stopped on the tracks in Cohasset. It happened just after 11:15 a.m. near Beachwood Street. A preliminary investigation said the man went through the crossing gates and other safety lights that were working at the time. The Greenbush Line of the Commuter Rail hit the man's truck. He died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.

Boston Police are searching for five young men who they say attacked a Suffolk University student late Saturday night. According to the police report, the student was walking near campus on Tremont Street just after 11 p.m. when the group of five drunken men crossed his path and one of them forcibly bumped into him. When the student shoved him back, the group surrounded him, pushed him, hit him over the head with a glass bottle and put him in a headlock before running away.
