On a pure dollar basis, monthly rent costs are cheaper than monthly housing payments in 48 of the 50 most populous U.S. cities, according to a new study from Clever Real Estate, a St. Louis-based real estate company. Detroit is the seventh least expensive city in which to rent. The analysis, which considers principal, interest, taxes, and homeowners insurance, shows that monthly home payments are more affordable than rent in only Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Doud’s Market on Mackinac Island, believed to be America’s oldest family operated grocery store, is celebrating 140 years of serving island residents and visitors. “It’s a wide variety of people we are serving,” owner Andrew Doud said. He has run the store since 2008 and represents the fourth generation of Douds at the helm. Opened by brothers James and Patrick Doud, the store first was known as Doud Bros. and later as Doud’s Mercantile.

The skies over Turtle Creek Stadium in Traverse City will come alive this weekend when the second International Fireworks Championship presented by GFL Environmental takes center stage. Six world-class pyrotechnic teams will compete in a two-day competition. A limited number of tickets are still available for the Friday and Saturday shows. The competition increased in size from last year’s inaugural competition.
