BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Students from two Mercer County high schools experienced the college life first-hand at Bluefield State University on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, students from PikeView and Bluefield got the opportunity while students from Princeton and Montcalm went on Friday. The students got to participate in different interest groups and tour the school’s grounds.

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Diana Sandifer has been selected as WVVA and Cole Chevy’s Teacher Feature Winner for the month of April. Sandifer teaches first grade at Bluefield Primary School. Since Sandifer was a child she always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Now a seasoned educator she’s been able to fulfill that passion and also use it to help her students learn. Sandifer is credited with using traditional teaching methods but she also knows how to bring the energy.

HINTON, W.Va. (WVVA) - West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey was joined by local state representatives in Hinton on Wednesday as he ceremoniously signed Senate Bill 474 and Senate Bill 299. Senate Bill 299 prohibits hormone blockers and gender transition surgeries for minors while Senate Bill 474 ends diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for primary and secondary schools as well as state colleges.

PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) - Generation West Virginia has announced their 2025 fellowship class and some local leaders have been selected. The program will give 29 state leaders a unique opportunity that will improve leadership skills. Princeton’s economic development director, Samuel Lusk was selected to take part in the year long initiative. Lusk along with the others will attend sessions led by industry leaders.
