Speaking of cleanups – there have been multiple community cleanup days around the hi-dez as spring cleaning is in full effect. Many of these are co-sponsored by San Bernardino County such as the one in Landers that took place on March 29th. Landers Homestead Valley Association president Mike Lipsitz says that the cleanup was a hufe success, with residents bringing out old water heaters, mattresses, and tires that numbered in the hundreds.

The six probationary rangers at Joshua Tree National Park that were part of the mass terminations that hit the National Park Service in mid-February have been confirmed to be back on the job, according to a source inside the Park. The Rangers were part of thousands of indiscriminate cuts across the department of interior, hitting most national parks as they ramped up to warmer weather and larger visitation numbers.

Two proclamations were made at the start of Tuesday night’s meeting. The first declared April Sexual Assault Awareness Month in partnership with Partners Against Violence, a nonprofit in the Morongo Basin that provides support for survivors of sexual assault and violent crimes. It is also Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the San Bernardino County Children’s Network says that there were nearly 32,000 referral calls made in 2024 to their child abuse hotline.
