As a national report indicates sellers are now outpacing buyers at a significant clip throughout the United States, local real estate professionals noted that isn’t the case within Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. The report released by Redfin — an online real estate brokerage — estimates the U.S. housing market had nearly 500,000 more sellers than buyers, as of April.

OLYPHANT — A new restaurant in a familiar spot offers borough residents another dining option in the Queen City. Robert Smith held a soft opening for Smith’s Eatery, 802 E. Lackawanna Ave., this past weekend and plans a grand opening Friday. The Carbondale resident — who also runs New Era Pro Wrestling — now aims to serve the area in a new manner. “We already did a lot for the community, so I figured this was a great opportunity that just kind of fell into our lap,” Smith said.

SCRANTONWingstop – a national chain restaurant specializing in chicken wings and tenders – plans to open its first location in Lackawanna County this month. The new eatery at 1600 Nay Aug Ave., Suite 16, will open Monday, store officials said. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight each day. Wingstop currently operates more than 2,000 restaurants worldwide – including nearly 50 throughout Pennsylvania with the closest location in Mount Pocono.

Residents in a Dunmore neighborhood were briefly evacuated Sunday afternoon after a sinkhole opened up in the borough. Crews responded to 1402 College Ave. around 3:25 p.m. after a caller reported an “80-foot deep” sinkhole opened up in his backyard, according to an emergency dispatch.
