WILKES-BARRE — Five months after its namesake died, Walter’s Hardware announced a “retirement sale” ahead of its pending closure. Karen Letanski, who ran the store with her husband during the entirety of their 50-year marriage, said closing the business is bittersweet but the right thing to do. A Dickson City woman chipped a tooth and swallowed a piece of metal while consuming Middleswarth barbecue chips, according to a lawsuit filed last week in Lackawanna County Court against the famous snack company. Attorneys for Alicia Kandrac filed the suit against chip manufacturer Ira Middleswarth & Son, Inc. of Middleburg in Snyder County and the Gerrity’s supermarket in Luzerne, where she bought the allegedly tainted chips.

Police: Woman charged in Jackson Twp. man’s fentanyl overdose

A Plymouth woman is accused of supplying a man with drugs that led to his fatal overdose in March at his Jackson Twp. home. Amy Virginia Rowan, 41, is charged with drug delivery resulting in death and delivery of a controlled substance. Police said Rowan acknowledged selling drugs she thought to be methamphetamine to the man at a bar in Plymouth the night of March 8. An autopsy revealed the man died of an overdose of the lethal opioid fentanyl, police said.

The suspect in the Hazleton body-burning murder once assaulted his daughter and threatened to shoot her inside the same house where he allegedly beat and shot a woman last month, according to a protection from abuse order the daughter filed against him. HANOVER TWP. — Dickson City resident Laurie Schield is flying to Puerto Rico this week and waited until the last minute to get a REAL ID, a federal requirement to board domestic flights as of Wednesday. It wasn’t an easy task. When she visited the driver’s license center in Dunmore last week, staff there told her they don’t issue REAL ID cards immediately, that she’d get one in the mail in another week. They suggested she go to Hanover Twp. center, which issues same-day REAL ID cards.
