Jun. 18—WILKES-BARRE — A Wilkes-Barre man accused of firing a shot in the direction of his stepdaughter and her boyfriend that resulted in a police standoff in 2023 decided to take his chance before a jury. Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney Anthony Ross said he offered "the best plea agreement" to Luis Angel Soto Madera, 56, who rejected the offer through his attorney, James J. Scanlon, during a court proceeding before Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. on Wednesday.

Jun. 17—WILKES-BARRE — A former Dallas Borough man accused of living in a house of filth with his family pled guilty Tuesday to endangering children. Bruce Myers, 62, was scheduled for a jury trial before Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas but instead, pled guilty to four counts of endangering the welfare of children. Prosecutors withdrew two counts of child pornography, four counts of reckless endangerment and a single count of criminal use of communication facility against Myers.
