Two hundred dogs have been taken in to be cared for by the animal welfare charity across their two centres in Greater Manchester and Merseyside.

INDEPENDENCE — Sunday, September 8, 2024: An Interclub tournament — known as the WaMaC Cup — was held at the River Ridge Golf Course in Independence on Sunday. Eight teams of eight golfers attended this 18-hole event on speedy greens. The top six scores from each team were posted, and River Ridge Golf Course was the winner by 3-strokes over PinOak of Manchester. Ethan Cahalan of Independence was the top medalist with a 69. Teammate Christian Burkhart shot a 73 and finished in 4th place.

WAVERLY — Tuesday, September 10, 2024: The Independence Mustangs Cross Country teams traveled to Waverly for the annual Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Invitational on Tuesday. The Mustangs had limited availability, but senior Reaghan Ressler had a good finish with a 22:02.5, good enough for 14th place. INDEPENDENCE — Tuesday, September 10, 2024: The Independence Mustangs began their 2024 WaMaC Conference play by losing a three-set match to Class 3A, #11-ranked Center Point-Urbana Stormin-Pointers. The Mustangs fought hard in the first set but ultimately lost a close 25-22 set. Junior Morgan Ristvedt led the offense with 4 kills and junior Jersey Coonrad contributed 3 kills. In the second set, the CPU took control and secured a 25-15 victory.

WINTHROP — Friday, September 6, 2024: The East Buchanan Buccaneers’ defense played three-quarters of stout football on Friday night, but a big fourth quarter by the Bellevue Comets dropped the Bucs to 0-2 on the season with a 14-6 defeat. The Buccaneers scored an early first-quarter touchdown on a Brady Van Scoyoc 1-yard pass to Jack Gericke giving the Bucs a 6-0 lead that they held until the fourth quarter. Five Buccaneer turnovers were the key to defeat on Friday night.

OELWEIN — Friday, September 5, 2024: The Jesup J-Hawks rack up 398 yards of total offense, including senior Preston Younglut’s 195 yards rushing in a J-Hawk 49-12 win over the Oelwein Huskies on Friday night. After a back-and-forth first quarter, the J-Hawks started to take over the line of scrimmage, scoring 14 points in the second quarter to take a 20-6 halftime lead.
