CBS2 Boise — While we have been mostly dry in the Treasure Valley, the mountains have been getting a lot of snow over the weekend! This snow stake at Tamarack shows over 14" of snow in 24 hours. That's a beautiful sight for our local mountains. But, over the last 48 hours, Tamarack has had 30", Brundage has reported 22" and Bogus received 18" of fresh powder. Our snowpack levels are definitely moving in the right direction.

CBS2 Boise — Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue across Western Idaho through Tuesday with highs warming into the 60's. This will be in anticipation of another big change expected Wednesday as a series of fronts will move in from the Pacific Northwest. While highs in the 60’s sounds nice, we need to crank up the snow in the mountains again if we hope to end the season on a good note.

CBS2 Boise — A storm will move across Nevada tonight and Thursday. There is a chance of some of that moisture moving through the Treasure Valley around the morning commute and through the first part of the day. The showers will fall as a rain/snow mix. No accumulations are expected at this time as temperatures will be above freezing. The Owyhee mountains to the south of the Treasure Valley will see significant snow of 3-6” with up to 6-10” above 6,000’. High pressure will rapidly return on Friday.

CBS2 Boise — Treasure Valley resident, Justin Harrison went snowmobiling on Friday and sent me this picture from Mores Creek Summit. One picture tells a story and that story is that we are looking good for snowpack across all of Southern Idaho for right now. The following numbers do not take into consideration the additional 6-8” of snow we have had. For example, the Boise Basin is now 125% of normal snow for the season. The Weiser Basin is 135% and the Owyhee Basin is 120% of normal.

CBS2 Boise — After days of blue skies and frigid temperatures, a significant change is expected in our weather on Friday as a strong winter storm moves in from the Pacific. We have two ingredients in place that will enhance the potential for the storm to make snow. First, is the frigid air trapped in Western Idaho. Highs have only been in the 20's and lows again tonight will drop into the single digits. So as the storm approaches, the air will be frigid and the ground is already in a hard freeze.
