The great empires of antiquity, Babylon, Egypt, Assyria, Persia, Greece and Rome, rose and fell to the cadence of armies on the march. And the people suffered from the plagues of death, famine and disease which followed the armies.

    This bald eagle was photographed by Officer Brady Burton of the Hurricane Police Department at City Park on Monday, April 7. Bald eagles have been spotted at the reservoir adjacent to the park in recent years.     On Wednesday, March 5, Dean E. Dawson, 65, of Hurricane, pleaded guilty in federal court in Huntington to one count of willful failure to pay over employment taxes on behalf of his business. According to court documents and statements, Dawson operated RPC Group LLC, a Hurricane, West Virginia, real estate appraisal business. Dawson was responsible for withholding employment taxes from RPC Group’s employees and paying over those funds to the IRS.
