Colorado State sophomore Kyan Evans scored a career-high 23 points and knocked down six 3-pointers to lead the No. 12 seed Rams to a 78-70 win over No. 5 Memphis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. It’s Colorado State’s first trip to the second round since 2013, and No. 4 seed Maryland awaits. The Rams and Terrapins face off today at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Maryland (26-8, 14-6 Big 10) cruised past Grand Canyon, 81-49, in the first round.

Saint Mary’s erased a 12-point deficit in the second half of its 59-56 win over No. 10 seed Vanderbilt in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The No. 7 Gaels now have a chance to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16, but No. 2 Alabama stands in their way. Saint Mary’s and Alabama will face off at 6:10 p.m. ET today in Cleveland, Ohio.

Gonzaga is not new to this whole NCAA Tournament thing. The No. 8-seeded Zags made their 26th appearance in the Big Dance since 1998 this year, and with their 89-68 win over Georgia in the first round on Thursday, they advanced to the second round for the 22nd time since head coach Mark Few took over in 1999. Up next for Gonzaga is a matchup with No. 1 seed Houston today at 8:40 p.m. ET. Gonzaga is looking for its 10th straight trip to the Sweet 16.

The rumors of Gonzaga’s demise were greatly exaggerated. The Zags came up short in their quest for the West Coast Conference’s regular-season title for the second year in a row and got swept by rival St. Mary’s for the first time since 2015. Gonzaga didn’t wither, though. Like a prize fighter defying the odds with a well-timed strike, the Zags reclaimed their spot on top of the league with a 58-51 win over St. Mary’s in the WCC Tournament championship.
