New acts included Lucas Miller, the Singing Zoologist, and juggler Bruce Manners. While rain cancelled some Sunday events, the festival was deemed a success. The 2026 CALF will celebrate Winnie-the-Pooh. The 2025 CALF got a leg up on last year's festival. In 2024, visitors from 156 Texas cities were represented at the Children's Art & Literacy Festival. This year that number jumped to 165. Overall, there were 5,443 participants from 22 states who visited Abilene for CALF this year.

New additions to the festival include the Clear Fork Bank Storybook Garden and "The Storybook Giving Tree" sculpture. Illustrator and author Matt Phelan was honored Thursday at the Children's Art and Literacy Festival in downtown Abilene. CALF events are to continue through the weekend, including dramatic readings of Phelan's books, live entertainment and art activities.

Memories of cotton, tractors and the former location of Abilene Auction were shared at her partyDorothy worked various jobs throughout her life, from picking cotton to driving a milk wagon. Her son, Charlie, describes her as always being involved in service for other people. Dorothy recalls fond memories of her life and expresses gratitude for her family. What’s the most amazing thing about turning 103? “It's hard for me to say that I have a son 80 years old, but I do,” chuckled Dorothy Russell.
