    About 100 people protested in spite of bitter winds and rainProtesters expressed concerns over cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs and potential harm to education and social programs. The demonstration remained peaceful with participants holding signs and chanting slogans. Some protesters voiced frustration with local representatives. Nearly 100 people braved drizzling rain and a 31-degree wind chill to demonstrate outside Abilene City Hall Saturday.

Meanwhile, Saturday has been marked as a nationwide day of protest, and "Hands Off!" demonstrations will be held in hundreds of American cities, according to media reports.
