Stick horses are the steed of choice in this contestYoung cowgirls and cowboys squared-off Saturday morning in a contest that tested not only agility, style and athleticism but perhaps most importantly, imagination. The Stick Horse Horse Rodeo at Saturday's Western Heritage Classic was open to children ages 3-9, split into three age divisions. Just like in regular rodeo, these kids competed against the clock in barrel racing and bronc riding, as well as roping.

Rodeo, chuckwagons and trade show are highlightsThe Western Heritage Classic kicked off Thursday with a parade through downtown Abilene. The Taylor County Expo Center will host a rodeo, trade show, chuckwagon cook-off and other events. The Ranch Horse Association of America holds its World Finals in conjunction with Western Heritage. The ranch rodeo schedule at the Taylor Telecom Arena is also posted online.

Over 300 people participated in the Big Country CASA Superhero 5K at Abilene Christian University. The event aimed to raise awareness and recruit volunteers for the Court Appointed Special Advocates program. With capes fluttering in the breeze, their masks set and lightning bolts on their socks, over 300 put their best feet forward. On a picture-perfect May 3 morning, the Big Country CASA Superhero 5K was held at Abilene Christian University.
